Gerald A. Cahill, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Gerald Cahill is Medical Director of the Midwest Bariatric Institute and the highly successful Bariatric Center of Excellence at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers. He has performed more than 2,000 successful weight loss surgeries. Dr. Cahill has extensive experience and special interest in weight loss surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He was the first to perform weight loss surgery in Chicago's Southwest area.

 

After receiving his medical degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1982, he completed his residency in surgery at the University of Illinois Affiliated Hospitals (University of Illinois Hospital, Cook County Hospital, West Side V.A. Hospital). His areas of expertise include all forms of weight loss surgery: laparoscopic and open bypass; laparoscopic placement of the adjustable gastric band/lap band and the laparoxcopic gastric sleeve procedure.

 

A practicing physician for more than 20 years, Dr. Cahill is board-certified in general and colon rectal surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. He is a member of the Chicago Medical Society and the Illinois Medical Society. Dr. Cahill has been recognized by Castle Connolly as one of the top doctors in bariatric surgery (Chicago Metro 1st and 2nd Editions).

 

Richard Y. Zhu, M.D.

ZhuDr. Richard Zhu joined Dr. Cahill and the Bariatric Center at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Heath Care Centers in 2009. He has assisted on hundreds of bariatric procedures and began performing bariatric procedures in 2011. He has experience and special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery.

 

After receiving his medical degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago, he completed his residency at Saint Joseph Health Centers and Hospitals.His area of interests include all forms of weight loss surgery: laparoscopic gastric bypass, lap band and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

 

Dr. Zhu's Goals are to:

  • Provide better outcomes with less pain
  • Achieve the fastest healing time possible

Philosophy of Care:

Dr. Zhu's philosophy for care is that the patient is and always will be his first priority. Dr. Zhu believes in treating not only the disease process but also the patient as a whole person along with the support of his/her family and friends. He firmly believes that patients should always be treated as individuals with kindness, respect and dignity. Dr. Zhu listens and really trys to get an understanding of their needs.
